1.) Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Stories: Throughout 2018, the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP) with our partners The Wilderness Society and the Alaska Wilderness League is supporting a series of rapid response expeditions into Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to highlight the urgent need to protect this threatened national treasure. With the imagery collected from these expeditions, we curated story maps using the ESRI (ArcGIS) software to visually showcase what is at stake and to inspire the public to take a stand against oil drilling in this pristine and essential ecosystem.

2.) La Pampa’s Illegal Gold Mining: In the aftermath of Peru's historic and unprecedented militarized crackdown on illegal alluvial gold mining in La Pampa, iLCP Senior Fellow Jason Houston examines what can and needs to be done for biodiversity conservation and climate crisis mitigation. Illegal, unofficial, and unregulated alluvial gold mining has dramatically devastated over 40,000 hectares—and significantly impacted the ecosystem for many more hectares—of tropical rainforest in the biologically diverse and culturally rich Madre de Dios region of the Western Amazon. Centro de Innovación Científica Amazónica (CINCIA) is working to understand the extent of the environmental impact and how to mitigate and remediate it all, including an aggressive reforestation plan.
